Modern Buddhism – Thursday Classes

A new series of meditation classes on Thursdays at Kadampa Meditation Centre Liverpool, focusing on Lamrim (the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, also known as Kadam Lamrim) as presented in The New Meditation Handbook by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

There is not a single teaching of Buddha that is not included within Kadam Lamrim. For this reason, Je Tsongkhapa said that when we listen to the entire Lamrim we are listening to all Buddha’s teachings and when we practise the entire Lamrim we are practising all Buddha’s teachings. Kadam Lamrim is the condensation of all Buddha’s teachings; it is very practical and suitable for everyone and its presentation is superior to other instructions.

– Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, Modern Buddhism

About this Series

The New Meditation Handbook is a practical guide to meditation that teaches us how to make ourself and others happy by developing inner peace, and in this way making our lives more meaningful. Without inner peace there is no real happiness at all. Problems, suffering and unhappiness do not exist outside the mind; they are feelings and thus part of our mind. Therefore, it is only by controlling our mind that we can permanently stop our problems and make ourself and others truly happy.

The twenty-one Buddhist meditation practices presented in this book are actual methods to control our mind and experience lasting inner peace. This extremely practical guide is an indispensable handbook for those seeking happiness and meaning in their lives.

About our Resident Teacher

The Teacher of our Modern Buddhism classes is our Resident Teacher, Gen Kelsang Jigme.

Ordained as a monk in 1997 by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Gen Jigme has studied, practised and taught Kadampa Buddhism under Geshe Kelsang’s guidance in major Kadampa Centres throughout the UK for many years. He shows a humble, kind example as a practitioner and his clear explanations of Buddha’s teachings give us the confidence to practise them in our daily life.
